2558.1 | How about the LOWENDCAD notes file | FSAESP::SEGREST | | Tue Apr 03 1990 20:11 | 9 |
| Try looking in the low end CAD notes file
I know there is a detailed discussion of LVP16 queue procedures for the
VS2000. It may be of some help.

| Bob
thanks sooooo much for your response. Your note pointed me to the
lowendcad file, which in turn pointed me to the plot11 notes file.
I'm still researching my question...but on the right track.
Thanks again.

2558.3 | LVP16 Hookup | AKOV11::SMITH | Reality, just a visible imagination? | Wed Apr 04 1990 16:32 | 13 |
| This may help...
I've hooked up an LVP16 to a uVAX3100 running VWS and SIGHT. For hardware
you'll need some length of DEConnect cable and a H8571-E connector. The
DEConnect cable plugged into the 3100 and to the H8571-E which in turn plugs
into the LVP16. Our MIS setup a generic que pointing to the printer port
(called TT??? or CSAO I think). Then taking a SIGHT generated picture we
rendered it with the /DEV=LVP16. Printing the resulting file to this LVP16
QUE worked great.

PS: The H8571-E is the same connector used by the LJ250

2558.4 | But what about a DECwindows application? | GARIT::VANSICLEN | Garrett in The Mill. 223-6310 | Thu Apr 05 1990 20:39 | 7 |

But what if you are not using VWS (thus Sight)?
Actually,it's not the hooking up I am wondering about.
Is there any software that can utilize it?

2558.5 | Just SIGHT? | AKOV11::SMITH | Reality, just a visible imagination? | Fri Apr 06 1990 12:17 | 5 |
| Sorry but I only know of SIGHT and the RENDER command which can create LVP16
printable files. I suspect several CAD packages may work as well.

The LVP16 is a HP plotter with a DIGITAL label. It speaks HPGL. As
of the last time I checked - there is no support provided with
DECwindows for HPGL. VWS supplied support for the device through
HCUIS translation of UIS generic encoding. I believe there is also a
translator for GKS metafiles.
So, except for applications which can generate HPGL directly, or
perhaps something like from a GKS metafile... nope. What is needed
is a DDIF->HPGL convertor.

Oh. I almost forgot :-) You can ALSO install UISX, HCUIS and SIGHT
on your DECwindows workstation. So, I suppose there is "some" support
:-)

The Graphics Hardcopy ("GKS") back end creates HPGL if you're willing to
install GKS runtime.
