Has anyone seen this one? The customer sometimes goes into pseudo-mouse mode with the WAIT light on. They hit CTRL/F3 to get out of this mode, the WAIT light goes out. (So far pretty normal, right?) Now the customer goes into EDT and finds that the Left and Right arrow keys do not move the cursor. The Up and Down arrow keys work. This is VMS 5.3, DECwindows V2. I do hardware support and was asked about this problem, I'm hoping there is a S/W fix. Linda

I've never seen nor heard of it! Do the left/right arrows still move the mouse? Does going into and out of mouse mode do anything? How do they get back to normal working mode? Burns
2537.2 | have to reboot to get back to normal | CSCOA3::BAUER_L | Fri Mar 30 1990 10:24 | 16
The left/right arrows move the mouse while the WAIT light is on, not when its off. Going into and out of mouse mode the first time after boot triggers the problem. After the left/right keys die, toggling in and out of mouse mode doesn't get rid of the problem. They get back to normal working mode by rebooting. If this isn't any sort of 'known' bug, should they just try re-installing DECwindows? That's what VWS people usually tell me to do when VWS starts acting weird. Linda
2537.3 | It happened to me once... | ATLV5::DIAL_B | Fri Mar 30 1990 11:04 | 11
I'm running on a 13mb mvII GPX. A few weeks ago, someone 'borrowed' my mouse and I had to work for a few days without one. Consequently, I was toggling between modes a lot. I do remember one occasion where I lost control over the (Decterm) cursor with the arrow keys, similar to what .0 describes. Further toggling between modes didn't change anything. As I recall, I solved the problem by rebooting, and it didn't happen anymore, soon thereafter I got my replacement mouse. I understand that this isn't a whole lot of help, but I didn't pay much attention to it at the time. Barry

You could try instead of rebooting doing @SYS$MANAGER:DECW$STARTUP RESTART That is a bit less painful. Beyond that, it sounds like QAR time. Burns |
