I have a customer with the following problem on a 3100 workstation
on VMS 5.2,the station is a new addition to his MI cluster.
When booting the work station DECwindows appears to start OK,he
gets the Digital logo with username etc..
After login his session manager starts but he then gets the Digital logo
and username prompt (like after booting).If he logs in again he has
two session managers,he then stops one and they both die,he can now
use DECwindows.
This happens every time he boots.Both DECW$SYLOGIN and DECW$LOGIN are
empty files.
Has anyone seen this before.

This pb has been discussed several times. What you see is due to
the fact that DECW$STARTUP is running twice in your system, one
in Startup phase, and the other probably in the SYSTARTUP_V5.COM.
You just have to remove the call to DECW$STARTUP.COM in the
SYSTARTUP_V5.COM procedure.
The reason of that is :
Whit VMS 5.2, DECwindows is called diirectly in sysman, while
with VMS 5.1, you have to set it manually in SYSTARTUP_v5 procedure,
