2511.0. "XtManage grows dialog box (V5.3 only)" by GYPSC::BADE () Mon Mar 26 1990 08:09

Since VMS V5.3 popup dialog boxes grow in size with each
XtUnmanage/XtManage action. The problem can be easily reproduced
with the DECburger example: with every call to the control box
the free space between the Apply/Dismiss/Reset pushbuttons and the
lower end of the box increases by about a pixel.

This problem was doesn't exist with earlier versions of VMS.
It is particularly annoying for applications that frequently
use the same widget for I/O. Does anybody know a solution or
    workaround to this problem ?

I reported this against DECwindows MAIL a long time ago. The problem
is known, but a solution seems still in the future.

FileView has been plagued by this as well. The toolkit people promised to
fix it (someday) but so far it doesn't seem to have been fixed. It has
been QARed, I believe, but I don't know the QAR number.

The only workaround I can think of is to get the size of the dialog box
in the application and then keep setting it back to that size every time
it is popped up. Ugly. But don't hold your breath, either.

I found that I reported this as DECWINDOWS-IFT QAR 3542. Last I looked,
there seemed to be some argument between the DWMAIL and Toolkit people
about it, but I remember seeing some mail saying that the problem
had been identified in the toolkit.
