2494.0. "BACKGROUND Pattern on the FULL screen" by GUIDUK::SOMER () Wed Mar 21 1990 21:07

    With the advent of Sony Trinitron Monitors and SPX boards is there
    a way of getting the screen background pattern to cover up the
    entire physical screen and this way getting rid of the 1/2" or so
    black border/stripe that surrounds the actual work area in the
    VR290 type monitors ?

2494.1hmmmm...probably not...GSRC::WESTVariables don't, Constants aren'tWed Mar 21 1990 23:4611
  Probably not (easily anyways). It is physical/hardware and not software.
It is possible to adjust the gun(s) beam to cover that area but they are
usually set to give as close to as possible a square picture. This is done
by adjusting the horizontal and possibly even the vertical of the monitor.

  Get out your (plastic) screw driver and go play. :^) I've actually seen
a customer do this for the very reason your asking.

Though you might be pushing the video circuits very hard by doing this.

Yes, it's too bad we don't do overscan.

    I have a customer that required an over-scanned screen and against
    our advice had the monitors adjusted to fill more of the screen.
    This has now affected the reliability of the screen and we have
    a problem with them falling over (not literally).
