Since upgrading to VMS V5.3 and addition of GPX (to VAXstation II world box) I have been experiencing very slow login from pause window. During the night, mail or some decnet operation will write to OPA0. This seems to hold up all X activity. Why? In the morning I hit CTRL-F2. I get the top part of screen back and lots of disk activity for 10 to 20 seconds including lots of bells which I assume is mail notifications. After disk activity has stopped for afew seconds, I type my password and hit RETURN. From time I hit RETURN, it takes another 10 to 20 seconds for the OK button to light up and another few seconds for pause window to disappear! I have run autogen since upgrade to 5.3. Thanks /steve

So look at SYLOGICALS.COM to see how to suppress all that stuff or do what I do at the end of my SYSTARTUP_V5.COM. $... $ DEFINE/USER SYS$COMMAND OPA0: $ REPLY/DISABLE $ EXIT mike

I don't know why the big pause, but I can imagine that the server has been hung all night and it might be still servicing a whole bunch of stuff that the clients have queued up while it was hung. Burns

The long pause is because all of the text cursor blinking events have piled up. To work around this problem you either need to disable the console as mentioned in the previous reply, or you could disable the cursor blinking by adding a resource to your resource files. The resource name is blinkrate: 0 |
