I have a customer who reports that both V1 and V2 of DECWINDOWS, TPU often times has pregnant pauses. These pauses can occur when the user is merely typing and cannot be attributed to external events within the system. When using the non DECWINDOWS interface for TPU there are no pauses. This can be demonstrated by doing the following: $ EDIT/TPU/DISPLAY=DECWINDOWS large-file <Press DO key> Command: DEFINE KEY EVE Command: TPU SCROLL (CURRENT_WINDOW) Press the key you want to define: <Press any key to be defined> When pressing this key the file should scroll by all the way to the bottom, generally without hesitation. In the case of a DECWINDOWS display it pauses a number of times before getting to the bottom. If the exact same sequence of commands is issued in a DECTERM invoking the editor without the /DISPLAY=DECWINDOWS qualifier the scrolling will not stop until it gets to the bottom of the file. I could find nothing in the DECWINDOWS-IFT QAR database. If I get no response here (or possibly even if I do and it is an heretofore unknown problem) I will submit a QAR. Thanks, -Tom

You might get a more informed audience in DDIF::TPU_BUGS. I presume, by the way, that the length of these pauses is somewhat shorter than nine months? Steve | |||||
