We have the following configuration: MicroVax 3400 (Boot Server of LAVC) with two satellites (VaxStation 3100) and several PC's with PCSA. The 3100's need to run UIS. They want to run PCDECwindows on PC's. The question is, is it possible to display on PC's DECwindows applications running on the 3400, while the 3100's are booting the UIS system? Thanks, Xavier

Yes. UIS has no effect on the ability for applications to use DECwindows. You will of course need to define a destination display (DECW$DISPLAY) and this also assumes that the application does not do anything silly like check for UIS$PRESENT or WINDOW_SYSTEM = 1. To run the DECwindows application on the UIS system, check out VWSDECW (on the V4.2 kit for VMS V5.1 & V5.2) which provides a low-performance DECwindows Monochrome Frame Buffer emulation for UIS. It is *also* possible to run many UIS applications under DECwindows. UISX is in FT1 - see the VWSENG::UISX conference for details. _Fred (ex-UISer) |
