2424.0. "What's that annoying little box?" by NECSC::LEVY (Everybody's doin' that rag) Fri Mar 09 1990 16:05

Here's one that's kind of weird.

I just upgraded to VMS T5.4-4ET.

Whenever I start my session, there's this little box in the middle of the
display. It sits on top of everything except the pointer.

It does not occur when SYSTEM logs in, only LEVY.

I assume it's some resorce file somewhere that is causing this, hence my
reluctance to QAR it.

Anyone have any idea where to look?

The first reply to this will be a DDIF screen capture of a portion of the
screen that shows the annoying little fellow.

Thanks!

Well, it's gone now.

I did an AUTOGEN and now the sucker no longer shows up.

But I know it was there...really...I'm not kidding.

<sigh>

2424.3You're not the only one, mine is decw$calendarSUNRIZ::JBONINJohn Bonin, U.S. Data Warehouse DBAWed Mar 14 1990 09:209
I am having problems running DECW$CALENDAR under T5.4-4ET. I get about 10
%XLIB-E-ERROREVENT, error event recieved from server messages then the little
black box appears through 3 or 4 underlying windows, until I kill the process
running the calendar.

Anyone else seen this, or have a T5.4-4ET image for DECW$CALENDAR??

Thanks,
	John

        I believe that the little window is a 5x5 DECwindows
        toolkit shell window that somehow became mapped. If you
        have access to an ULTRIX system you can run xwininfo or
        xprop on it to find out what application created it.

2424.5indeed, calendar...R2ME2::OBRYANWhen in doubt, let the user decide.Fri Mar 23 1990 00:446
re:.2 (.4)

As .3 indicated, the problem is calendar, probably auto-started from your
session manager. Did you log into a different account after you auto-gen'd,
or did you change the session managers auto-startup list?

    Ahhhh...

    I had another problem (self-inflicted, I might add) with Calendar that
    I fixed at the same time. Basically, I had blown away my .DWC file and
    Calendar aborted with a million errors when starting up. Putting the
    .DWC file back appears to have been the fix and not the AUTOGEN.

    Thanks!
