| This happened to me when I first started using Ultrix on the VS3100. It
happened whenever I swapped the keyboard. I had assumed that between the
hardware, the driver and the server, something would be smart enough to notice
when the keyboard was unplugged and replaced, but they weren't.
Did you unplug the keyboard? If so, try powering down and up again.

2420.2 | another keyboard error | SALEM::COVIELLO | | Fri May 04 1990 12:08 | 14 |
| I am running T5.3 decw v2 and I'm trying to run Decwindows on a
vs2000. I am able to start the process, but then it goes away.
I looked into DECW$SERVER_0_ERROR.LOG and I get the following:
4-MAY-1990 10:32:05.1 Hello, this is the X server
Dixmain address=127b4
qiow to DECW$KEYBOARD failed. can not init input from keyboard 12.
any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

2420.3 | Usually means another server is running | STAR::VATNE | Peter Vatne, VMS Development | Fri May 04 1990 12:14 | 7 |

I seem to remember getting this when another server was running. The new
server can't init the keyboard because the original server has it assigned.
This frequently happens when people upgrade from VMS V5.1 or V5.2 to V5.3,
and forget to delete the line "@DECW$STARTUP" from SYSTARTUP_V5.COM.

2420.6 | sort of helped | SALEM::COVIELLO | | Fri May 04 1990 12:57 | 7 |
| ok I looked at it. I think it may have something to do with that.
I rebooted the system and I logged in I looked at tta0. it had no
errors and was owned by system. I then tried to start decwindows
then looked at tta0 again it had 1 error and device had timed out,
still owned by system.
