2419.0. "Does Print Screen use default colormap?" by PEACHS::BELDIN () Fri Mar 09 1990 10:27

A customer asked the following questions:

The Print Screen function appears to use only the default colormaps
that are installed on the root window. Is this correct? The sources
appear to indicate that this is true. The customer only found this
out through trial and error after installing his colormap and using
his own colors and using print screen - everything came out black.

Are there any plans to use other than the default colormap in the
future for Print Screen? That is, use colormaps that are specific to
an application by somehow finding out which window is using what
	colormap? Does UTOX do this?

Just to let you know...I'm in the process of cleaning up a program I wrote
in Ada that does print screen. I've added and option to allow you to use
a colormap other than the default.

The program generates a SIXEL file. You have the choice of monochrome or
color copies.

In fact, I hope to be finished with this program sometime today. When I
do finish it I will post it in the DW_EXAMPLES conference. Since it is
written in Ada it will only work with VMS. (unless someone wishes to port
it to Verdix (sp?) Ada)...

Any chance you could be convinced to make it output CDA?

Funny you should mention that...I just started looking into that format.
I've been wanting something to do with DDIF and CDA and I thought this would
be a good format to try it out.

Depending on how long it takes me to come up to speed on it I will have
it integrated. I will let you all know.
