2396.0. "Bookreader problem ?" by FDCV07::MAURER (Tyrrany n. e.g. Taxation w/o Representation) Tue Mar 06 1990 15:26

Is this the right place for a bookreader problem question ? I hope so.

I have the following: VAXstation II/GPX, VMS V5.3-1, DECwindows V2.0,
    RRD50, March OLD CD.

I seem to be hitting a problem opening some of the books on the disc.
Some of the books are fine but others just seem to make the bookreader
loop after the first couple of accesses to the disc and I have to
terminate it by stopping the process. I have just installed 5.3-1 and
just borrowed the March OLD disc.

    Any ideas ?

Actually, there's a Bookreader conference at BULOVA::BOOKREADER (press
KP7 or Select to add it to your notebook).

Is the BOOKBROWSER PAK installed on your system? If not, install it and
then try reading the books that were giving you trouble. The BOOKBROWSER
PAK allows you to read books for which a product license is not installed.
(This is also discussed in the above-mentioned Bookreader conference.)

Nina, thanks for the reply. I had looked for a BOOKREADER conferenec
but it's not listed in the Easynotes.lis (at least not in the
Workstation section). Anyway, while sitting in a meeting this morning,
I realised my problem was exactly what you said - I had forgotten to
install the browser PAK. I can't believe I didn't realise this was the
problem, especially since I've been in software licensing for years and
have told any number of people about the browser PAK etc. etc. Thanks
    for your reply !
