2368.0. "100 dpi fonts on SPX?" by OSLACT::OLAV (Do it in parallel!) Tue Feb 27 1990 15:51

We have a VAXstation 3100 model 48 with SPX option and a 19" monitor. Should it
use the 100 dpi fonts or the 75 dpi fonts? Ours is defaulting to 75 dpi. This
results in quite small fonts. How can we force it to use 100 dpi?

    This is confusing...

75 DPI already is "the big fonts" and the default for 19" monitors.
100 DPI fonts would only be smaller.

Dots per inch is an inverse measurment: for a fixed number of dots, the
larger the DPI (ie resolution), the smaller the resulting image.

Pat,

With an SPX, the 19" monitor is (or can be) 100dpi. What that means is that
if you specify fonts by point size (rather than pixel size), the 75dpi fonts
will be physically much smaller. This is because their pixel/point ratio
is wrong. Therefore, you should use 100dpi fonts to get a larger display
as described in .1.

If you are specifying font choices by pixel size, then it doesn't matter
which font set you choose (except that certain sizes may not be available).
