    DECw Mail crashes under VMS 5.3
    I hope someone can help me ASAP. I am an instructor in L.A. teaching
    a DECwindows user class this week at a customer site. We are using
    an LAVC under VMS 5.3. Whenever anyone accessec the Mail application
    from Fileview and tries to do a CREATE-SEND function from the main Mail
    window it gets blown away. When you look at the taks output from
    Work in Progress it says:

    X Toolkit Warning: DRM: I18NOpenFile: Couldn't open file decw$mail_send
    - DRMFailure
    X Toolkit Warning Drm_OpenHierarchy: DRMFailure
    DECW$MAIL severe error - attempting to complete pending actions
    %SYSTEM-F-ACCVIO, access violation, reason mask=01, virtual address=
    43F01388, etc.

    If anyone knows a fix please publish here ASAP. I am in the middle
    of a class and don't have access to Release Notes. Thanks in advance.

	It means exactly what it says - it can't find DECW$MAIL_SEND.UID.
	Have you changed the assignment of DECW$SYSTEM_DEFAULTS? Check
	things out as follows:

$ show log decw$system_defaults
   "DECW$SYSTEM_DEFAULTS" = "SYS$COMMON:[DECW$DEFAULTS.USER]" (DECW$LOGICAL_NAME
S)
        = "SYS$COMMON:[DECW$DEFAULTS.SYSTEM]"
        = "SYS$LIBRARY:"
1  "SYS$LIBRARY" = "SYS$SYSROOT:[SYSLIB]" (LNM$SYSTEM_TABLE)
$ dir decw$system_defaults:decw$mail*.uid

Directory SYS$COMMON:[DECW$DEFAULTS.SYSTEM]

DECW$MAIL_MAIN.UID;1                    DECW$MAIL_MISC.UID;1
DECW$MAIL_READ.UID;1                    DECW$MAIL_SEND.UID;1

Total of 4 files.
2308.2No Help Yet on DECw MailDELREY::ENRIGHT_RATue Feb 20 1990 20:234
    RE: note .1
    I have CAREFULLY checked out the logical defs and directory contents
    shown and mine are EXACTLY as shown. I even re-booted to see if
    that would help. NO LUCK. Any other ideas, I am running out of time?

	As I pointed out in mail, another possibility is FileView running
	out of some quota (such as FILLM). Do you have several applications
	running simultaneously from FileView? Does it work if you just
	do RUN SYS$SYSTEM:DECW$MAIL from DCL?

	And, of course, check the protection on DECW$SYSTEM_DEFAULTS:
	DECW$MAIL*.UID. Again, the problem is that DECW$MAIL_SEND.UID
	can't be open - look for reasons it can't (ways in which it
	differs from DECW$MAIL_MAIN.UID, which clearly is being opened
	successfully).

2308.5Culprit was FILLM!DELREY::ENRIGHT_RAFri Feb 23 1990 00:328
    BINGO!
    As per your note .3 I checked the process parameters and
    found that FILLM was 20. I bumped it to 40 and now DECw Mail
    works fine. Thanks for the help.

    Where can I find guidelines to other process parameter values
    for DECwindows?  Anyone?
