2283.0. "sixel screen capture has spurious data" by TOOLEY::B_WACKER () Thu Feb 15 1990 19:26

When I capture a white portion of the screen under 5.3 with the patch in
color sixel format and print it to an lj250 I get spurious background.

My white background is red 100, green 98, blue 95, but I get the
stripes over the entire captured area regardless of color.

There are horizontal stripes about 1mm high made of vertical black bars
with about 3 dots in them alternating with the real background. There
are about 18 little vertical bars per cm and they appear to be only
one dot wide. The horizontal stripes alternate with valid background
color about 6 pairs per vertical cm.

If I capture a white area 3 cm high by 1 cm wide in black and white sixel
the printout has a black bar about 1 cm wide by 1mm high at the bottom
of the area.

Capturing B&W postscript and psprinting it works ok (nothing is
printed.)

The lj250 self tests print ok.

Is anyone seeing the same thing or successfully capturing color sixel
images that print without stripes.

I'm not aware of any image sharables being changed, but anal/image
on decw$session for sharables gives:

Do the stripes appear only on the "white" regions? Does, for example, a pale
green region print without black stripes?

If the picture is rotated (a very wide, skinny area will be rotated by
printscreen) do the stripe now run the other way (vertically?)

Everything has the stripes, regardless of color.

No, they stay horizontal.

2283.3Are there stripes when you type the file in a DECterm window?HANNAH::MESSENGERBob MessengerMon Feb 19 1990 20:249
Re: .0

What happens if you display the sixel file in a DECterm window? If the
stripes disappear, it sounds like a problem with the LJ250, or the connection
to the LJ250. I've seen this in the past; I think it could be a communication
problem of some kind.

2283.4How to configure the lj250?TOOLEY::B_WACKERTue Feb 20 1990 12:5011
>What happens if you display the sixel file in a DECterm window?

I works fine. Thanks, that means the patch, etc. is ok!

I've switched cables and messed with all the terminal characteristics
I can think of an still have the stripes.

Does anyone have a lj250 on tta3: of a 3100 that works and could you
post a show term?

I see the exact same problem, only when I $TYPE the sixel file in a DECterm,
I get the same spurious data as when printing on the LJ250.

Does this mean that there is a problem with the patch?

I've installed both patches.ie. DECWPRINT$PATCH01_530 and DECWPRINT$PATCH02_530

Thanks in advance...

The patches are broken and it doesn't work on lj250's. Feel free to
spr as we have from here. Note: the spurious lines may be the result
of transforming to half size, but there's no way around it.

I have a customer with the same problem..ie. patch installed but
    poor output on his LJ250.

Is there any way round this problem yet..he is using a high resolution
SPX terminal and needs to use this print option in a big way..

    Any help,ideas ...... Thanks.

FWIW, this problem still exists in VMS v5.4 though to a lesser degree.

ps. As a workaround, if you have DECimage installed, you can capture to DDIF
format and $IMAGE RENDER to sixel.
