2242.0. "How to print ASCII text using Print Screen key" by CARDHU::HILL (Mike Hill, Zuerich Switzerland) Fri Feb 09 1990 05:51

Are you feeling crabby because XCrab got your pointer?
Are you paranoid because XEyes are watching you all day long?
Are you fed up with using "Print Portion of Screen" to do what F2 does on a VT?
Don't you just hate waiting for the sixel printouts of normal text?

Then this is the program for you ...

	XPrintScreen

Select the area you want to print and press F2, it's as easy as that!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I read the DECwindows and DECterm notes files and found that I wasn't the
only one who wanted this, but no one else had done it yet. So I did it.

Don't expect miracles with this program. It's a triple first for me.
Firstly it's my first C program, secondly it's my first X-windows program,
and thirdly it's the first time I ever used a Un*x type operating system.

It has been tested using both VMS and Ultrix clients and servers, and it
seemed to work on all of them. The code is portable and compiles without
change on VMS and Ultrix. It only uses Xlib, and should work with any
servers. It only uses a few C library routines, and will probably work
on non-DEC clients too.

If you want a copy of the source code, please send me a mail (CARDHU::HILL).
I'll reply with the source code. Please don't put replies here that you expect
me to read because I don't normally have enough time to read notes. If you
have any specific questions of a public nature, please send me a copy by mail.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you want to print stuff that can't be selected with MB1 and dragging, hard
luck. Things like DECterms work fine, but things like Bookreader - no chance.
You'll save both our times if you don't even think of asking for it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This note also appears in the DECterm notesfile.

This is useful! Is there any chance the functionality of this could be
incorporated in a future version of the session manager?
