2215.2 | Yes, I know of the problem... | PEACHS::MITCHAM | Andy in Alpharetta (near Atlanta) | Tue Feb 27 1990 10:59 | 22 |
| I've seen the problem, have been able to duplicate it, and have QAR'd
it. Basically, it appears the Session Manager attempts to use the
lowest version DECW$PRINTSCREEN.TMP file created, regardless of it it
was the one that created it. If you have multiple printscreen(s)
within a short period of time, they all attempt to use the same file.
Once the first printscreen is completed, the rest fail with "file not
found" messages. The files are, in fact, there. You'll have to go
back and manually print (and delete) them.
Another printscreen quirk I found (and was mentioned in the QAR as
well) is that there appears to be no cleanup of unused
DECW$PRINTSCREEN.TMP (or whatever the user has named them) files if a
printscreen function is cancelled. If this is done once, the
aforementioned file will be printed (and deleted) the next time a
printscreen is done.
The workaround to the above is, of course, capture the screen output to
a file and then print it.
Hope this helps...

| I just encountered this exact problem - Print, cancel, print - the
cancelled one is printed rather than the second, correct one. VMS 5.3.
Just wanted to double-check that this has been QAR'd.

2215.5 | Patch is available, fix is said to be in VMS v5.4 | PEACHS::MITCHAM | Andy in Alpharetta (near Atlanta) | Thu Jul 05 1990 14:39 | 10 |
| Sorry for not getting back. The answer I've received is that the problem
-should- be resolved in VMS v5.4. I was able to replicate the problem in
VMS T5.4-4GE but was told something to the effect "read my lips -- v5.4,
not T5.4". Apparently it is a last minute thing.
At any rate, those of you having this problem should get in touch with your
regional CSC as there is now a patch (actually, a new image) available for
VMS v5.3 systems.

I want to know the name of the patch available for VMS V5.3 systems.
Is this available on VOID system ?
Thanks,

2215.7 | you'll need to ask the author | VMSSG::LEMBREE | Just do it. | Thu Jul 12 1990 15:43 | 8 |
| I don't think that the patch has made it into VOID yet. Fixes
don't usually make it there until they've been adequately tested by the
customer that "asked for it". ;-)
Please use the established support channels to get an official
status of the patch, as I'm not the author and can't give you reliable
information.

2215.8 | here 'tis | VMSSG::LEMBREE | Just do it. | Thu Jul 12 1990 17:12 | 48 |
| Well, I spoke with the person that kitted this one up, and found out
that YES, it's in VOID and it's called SESSION$IMAGE01_530. Here's the
README file for it... Good luck.
========
Patch Identification:
SESSION$IMAGE01_530
Patch Policy:
This patch is to be used ONLY as part of a solution to a specific
problem and NOT as a troubleshooting method i. e. for 'quick fix
tries' at a customer site.
Patch Description:
This patch will supply a new image for the VMS 5.3 Session Manager.
Problem Description:
This new DECW$SESSION image includes a bug fix for the Print Screen
function. The original version would fail when the user attempted
to print the screen while a previous print screen was still printing.
Also, the CANCEL option would not always delete the .TMP file. These
problems are corrected in the new image.
Installation Instructions:
This patch is to be installed with the VMSINSTAL utility as follows:
@SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL SESSION$IMAGE01_530 [location of .A file]
You will need to reboot your system/entire cluster after installing
this patch.
Limiting Parameters:
none.
Special notes:
After installing the new image the user must either reboot all
DECwindows workstations, or issue the command
INSTALL REPLACE DECW$SESSION
on every DECwindows workstation affected by the patch.

2215.10 | Includes the LJ250 problem fix. | TMIS01::DORON | Doing my BEST !!! | Wed Jul 18 1990 04:00 | 10 |
| HI,
I have read the previous notes seeing that this patch will solve a problem on
one of my critical customers (INTEL). They are using LJ250 for thier print outs.
Can some one tell me if this patch includes ther PATCHed image with the LJ250
fix?
Urgent reply is required,
Thanks in advance,

2215.11 | Not include the LJ250 problem fix | EWBV04::NAGANO | Yuji Nagano, CSC/Tokyo Support Engineer | Wed Jul 18 1990 21:36 | 9 |
| The SESSION$IMAGE01_530.A is a new image (DECWSESSION.EXE) and does not include
the patch with the LJ250 fix( DECWPRINT$PATCH01_530.A).
So, you have to install SESSION$IMAGE01_530.A first and then install
DECWPRINT$PATCH01_530.A.
Best regards,
Yuji Nagano CSC/Tokyo Japan

Thanks,
But I ment to say is that it WONT override previous patch (or replace previous
image). Since the DECWPRINT$PATCH01_530 was installed, it will STILL be valid.
Am I right?

2215.13 | | EWBV04::NAGANO | Yuji Nagano, CSC/Tokyo Support Engineer | Thu Jul 19 1990 05:38 | 11 |
| No, it is not valid !!
Installing the SESSION$IMAGE01_530 replace the current DECW$SESSION.EXE
with new DECW$SESSION.EXE that does not include the patch with LJ250 fix.
So, after you intall the SESSION$IMAGE01_530 , you have to install
DECWPRINT$PATCH01_530 again.
Best regards,
Yuji Nagano

| VMSSG::J_OTTERSON | | Wed Jul 25 1990 11:02 | 9 |
| VOID is a tool used by CSSE VMS Support to distribute patches to the CSCs
worldwide. Only selected CSC personnel have access to the VOID system. There
are (I believe) 5 people at each CSC who can access VOID.
If you are in need of a patch from the VOID system, you must contact your CSC.
CSSE VMS Support typically will not distribute patches to anybody else, except
to perform our primary mission: closing CLDs and SPRs.

2215.17 | There's more than one LJ250 problem | VMSSG::LEMBREE | Just do it. | Thu Jul 26 1990 10:08 | 8 |
| There are still problems with Print Screen on the LJ250, and they
are currently being worked by engineering. The symptoms are poor image
quality with color printing, with a 100% white background appearing
grey. We're anticipating having a fix by the end of August. If this
is the LJ250 problem you're talking about, check with the CSC around
the first of September.

| What area are you in? If you are in the U.S., the CSCs are in Atlanta
and Colorado Springs. If England, the CSC is Reading. For Europe,
there are several of them.
Just about everywhere has a CSC (Customer Support Center). I'm not
sure of some of the areas in South America and the Middle East but I'm
sure there's some sort of support set up.
