2197.0. "VT1000 COLOR OPTION" by DEKVC::YOUNGKOOKLEE () Mon Feb 05 1990 02:42

Anyone who knows when the VT1000 (DECwindows Terminal)is available
    with COLOR-OPTIOS ?

One of our large account named POSCO ( over 100 VAX-units already
installed) would order about 100 units of VT1000 if COLOR supported.

    Thank you in advance.

Actually, since the VT1000 is announed in SALES UPDATE, information
regarding it can be shared in a VAX Notes Conference.

The SALES UPDATE of February 5, 1990 (which announces the VT1000) is
not yet online (there was no SU for Janaury 22, 1990), but the hardcopy
    version has been distributed.

The word "color" does not appear in the article. The VT1000 product
options announced do not include a color model. The discussion of the
VT1000 does not mention a future upgrade to color either.

The authors of the article are Vic Bellemare and Dave Gursky.

Note that the VT1000 was announced internally only. The public
announcement for the VT1000 won't happen until April 10, with the
	DECtop II announcement...

I see someone changed the title to say 1000 instead of 100. Which is
better for everyone except me, 'cause it makes my previous reply
    seem silly ...

Looking at the VT1000 User Manual I have, it lists three possible monitors,
all monochrome.

The VT1000 is definitely, uncontestibly, unmistakenly monochrome only.

The VT125 was a VT100 with a graphics board which displayed on the monochrome
built-in monitor, and also had RGB output for a color monitor. (Remember
those cute little Barcos that were supposed to be sold for the GIGI (VK100)
but which many of us used for VT125s?

Is that bitonal or grayscale? "Monochrome" can be taken to mean
   either one of those.

Considering the implementation of greyscale is the same order problem as
doing color (please, no ratholes), I'm sure it means bitonal.

Charlie, you've been doing images too long... :)

    FWIW..

IBM has introduced a color X Station.

We just recieved two VT1000s with newer ROMS.
I like what I see so far...nice. Good work!

IBM announced 3 color X-stations, and three greyscale X-Stations; no
    monochrome!. NCD/Motorola has announced a 1024 x 768 x 8, and is telling
    customers about their $5k follow-on, 1280 x 1024 x 8 device to ship in
Jan 91. (their new monochrome will list for $1600)
