2171.0. "linking decwindows with third party" by MSDOA::EDYER () Tue Jan 30 1990 18:38

    We are trying to write a DECwindows program that accesses a subroutine
    that returns data from an Oracle database, but we are having problems
    linking it all together. Appearently there are "clashes" between
    definitions of symbols, mostly in VAXCRTL, any suggestions??

    The problem comes about because the standard Oracle link command tries
    to link in the VAX C run time libraray (the logical ORACRTLA points to
    it also), we fixed it by changing the file OLB$ORACRTL.OPT to point at
    SYS$LIBRARY:VAXCRTL, and then didn't link it shareable.

Be careful because they have a reason for having their own library and
not using ours. Something may not work, but I don't know what.

They have a reason, but it's a bogus one.

Point well taken, though--the proposed solution might not work.

    Well, it didn't. But not becuase of any problems with using our C run
    time library. It didn't work becuase we needed to link the
    applications shareable. Note 1305 outlines the exact solution,
    including relinking all the peices of ORACLE (yuck). Anyway, it works
    great and we have it running on a MAC under White Pines...
