| I just found note 214 in the VWS conference but
that provided no solution. Has there been any progress since
the last entry, (214.4 15-JUN-89)?

I think V5.3 DECterm allows you to limit the number of colors and has
some other tweaks for 4-plane systems.

You need to Clear Display and then Reset Terminal, from the DECterm Commands
menu.

That's surprising; I didn't think VTX would change the colormap if you
SET TERM/NOREGIS.
Re: .2
In DECwindows V2 (VMS V5.3) DECterm will use only 4 colors by default out of 16
on a 4 plane system, so there's a good chance that DECterm win't have to
create a private colormap. You can also go into the Customize Graphics dialog
box and and turn on the Share Colormap Entries feature; this means that DECterm
will use read-only colors from the default colormap. That means DECterm won't
have to create a private colormap, but some pictures won't have the right
colors (because changing the colormap won't affect things that have already
been drawn).

2161.4 | don't have to play around with SET TERM | DINSCO::FUSCI | DEC has it (on backorder) NOW! | Mon Jan 29 1990 22:12 | 7 |
| A cludge-around we use is to define a symbol for VTX thus:
$ vtx :== vtx/device=vt100/ascii
This will keep VTX from munging your colors.
