| A title of "HELP ME..." is not terribly informative.
I'm not sure what kind of "graphics package" is being asked for. It might
be a graphics editor such as has been suggested, or perhaps a set of
callable routines such as GKS or PHIGS. Perhaps Simon can elaborate?

2111.1 | UISX, or ...
| DAVIS::peter | | Tue Jan 23 1990 09:51 | 17 |
| You could install the FT version of UISX ... essentially UIS running on
top of DECwindows. This should allow you to run SIGHT. There is a FT
announcement elsewhere in this conference (somewhere in the last couple of weeks).
Meanwhile, other applications are being developed to fulfill the
functionality of VWS/SIGHT. Some possibilities are DECwrite (V1
available today) and DECpresent (IFT available today). Both of these
contain integrated graphics editors similar to VWS/SIGHT. There are
also other packages in the works, including my own new graphics editor,
which is at least 6-9 months from internal availability.
There's also a non-DEC hack program called "IDRAW" floating around on
the network. From what I've seen, this tool is a pretty good
replacement for VWS/SIGHT. I don't know where to get a copy, however.
You'll have to poke around the notesfiles.

To find out more about some of the other products check out the conference
CLOSET::DOC_GRAPHICS.
If you go with a DECwindows based application then you will most likely
want to convert existing UIS files to something else, for this I suggest
you take a look at UTOX (UIS to X). You can find out all about that in
the conference
CLOSET::UTOX.
Hope this helps...

For at least a short-term answer, check out UISX (note 2091) which
should allow you to continue to use SIGHT under DECwindows. We are
still working on things, so you may have to bear with an occasional
glitch. Remember to do @SYS$STARTUP:SIGHT$STARTUP to define the
logicals!
Oh, I'll put a updated copy of HCUIS (render) out as well this week
which uncouples it from UIS and allows RENDER on *any* VMS system.

| I and my associates are quite impressed with RAGS. I never used SIGHT
much, but others tell me RAGS is better.
It's also very easy to include RAGS pictures into DOCUMENT.

Why place repeat notes in here?
Why then delete them and make moderators work to show them again?
Please don't.

write my response twice...
