FIRST-TIME USERS OF WORKSTATIONS
ATTENTION: New users of RISC/ULTRIX workstations, who are encountering
using a DECwindows system for the first time, as well as ULTRIX character
cell users who are new to windowing systems.
Digital's DECwindows environment provides you with a dynamic way of
interacting with Digital computers. And the training you need is integrated,
easy, and available NOW !
This course provides you with a computer-based hands-on introduction to
working in the DECwindows environment. Instruction covers using the mouse
device; managing windows; using pull-down menus, scroll bars, and dialog
box controls; selecting, cutting, and pasting text; accessing HELP; and
using the DECwindows Session Manager.

This DECwindows computer-based course, "Introduction to DECwindows Systems"
(*RISC/ULTRIX platform) offers new workstation users (whose previous experience
may have been limited to using character-cell terminals) a self-paced hands-on
introduction to working in the DECwindows environment. After you have learned
to use the various features of the DECwindows interface, you will be well
on your way to learning any DECwindows application.
Upon completing this CBI, you will be able to:
** Use a mouse device
** Manage and manipulate windows
** Use scroll bars to move around within a display
** Make choices from various types of menus (pull-down, pop-up, and submenus)
** Identify and use various dialog box controls, such as pushbuttons, radio
buttons, toggle buttons, list boxes, text-entry fields, option menus, and
scales
** Select, cut, copy, and paste text and graphics
** Access and navigate DECwindows HELP
** Log into and use the DECwindows Session Manager
** Start other DECwindows applications
The length of this course varies, depending upon the length of time you spend
with the numerous hands-on exercises and learning games. Typically, you'll
complete it within 2 hours.
Hardware Requirements:
This course is supported on any RISC system that uses the DECwindows
graphics interface. These systems include: DECstation 2100, DECstation 3100,
and DECsystem 5400. The course runs on both monochrome and color systems.
Color support is not required. To install this course, your system must
have at least 4000 Kbytes of free disk space. Although the course can run
on a system with 6 MB of memory, the system should have at least 9 MB of
memory, for good performance.
Software Requirements:
To install and use this course, the ULTRIX-32 Operating System V3.0 (or later)
and the ULTRIX-32 Worksystem Software (UWS) Version 2.0 (or later) system must
be installed and running on your system.
