    I have a wierd problem.  Customer has a LAVC with four satellites, all
    microvax 3100s.  He upgraded from 5.1-1 to VMS 5.2  on the boot node,
    then autogened with feedback all the satellites.  The modparams.dat for
    all satellites are identical.  The startup procedures are all run from
    sys$common, as things are controlled by nodename.  There is only one
    sysuaf, accessible to all.
    
    Here is the problem.  On three of the microvaxen users can log onto the
    screen quite happily, and use decwindows, as well as having users
    connected through lat.  On this one node, any and all attempts to start
    up a session under decwindows result in the following.
    
    The session manager appears, and then a fileview window is attempted to
    be started.  Get the error decterm controller process stopped ten
    times, then the retry counter expires, and the user is presented with
    the error duplicate process name 0X2dba002
    
    If he tries to start decterm from the session manager he gets logged
    out, the screen clears, and......that's it.  He has to kill the server
    and restart decwindows.
    
    He also gets the fileview error 13AB8204.
    There are no error logs that have any information in them.  Looking at
    a sh sys while the fileview is being started on login shows he gets
    DECW$TE_n where n = WSAn  with differing process id's.
    
    Any ideas as to where to look please.

	Try deleting the DECW$SM_*.DAT files in the user's accounts. For some reason if these files have some weird values, they'll cause this behavior. (From someone who just had the same problem TODAY!) Mark
