2060.0. "UWS V2.1/CRAY UNICOS/DECwindow problem" by SCAACT::MALONEY (it's all O's and 1's...) Wed Jan 17 1990 14:22

SCENARIO:

	The following is a scenario during a demo of Decwindows, using a
	DECstation as a Server and a Cray as a Client. This happened 6
	months ago, so the exact scenario is a little foggy:

	o  UWS V2.1/Decstation 3100
	o UNICOS/Cray...pretty sure of UNICOS vs COS
	o Cray XWindows used the Athena toolkit...not 100% sure on this
	o Application was Cray Perf...I think this stands for
	   Cray Performance Monitor

	The problem was that we could not "focus" upon the the Perf Window. The
	guy on the hotline had me use the uwm window manager instead of dxdm,
	and it began to work, however the customer was not happy. He
	wanted to use dxdm.

	Another fix was to set "auto-focus" (something the customer new how to
	do with a C program), but again this was not an acceptable long-term
	solution from the customer's perspective.

QUESTION:

	The customer is asking me if this is ever going to be fixed?
	Any ideas????

Thanks for any help.

>>> The customer is asking me if this is ever going to be fixed?

Answer: If you want it to happen, then you need to do your part to
get the information to the people who are responsible for dealing with
the problem. Not surprisingly, those people are usually too busy
responding to problems filed through standard support channels to
deal with informal reports such as those in Notesfiles.

Although many unreported problems do get fixed, it is unreasonable
to expect a fix without a formal problem report being filed through
standard channels. For ULTRIX, this means having someone (you or
the customer, assuming the customer is on the appropriate support
contract) write a report and submitting it to a problem report data base.
For released products, write an SPR. For Field Test, write a QAR.

2060.2UFP::MURPHYA bug? Use the source, Luke!Sat Feb 03 1990 20:515
    And it's probably an application bug. The DEC window manager requires
    that applications that want input focus have XtNinput set to true on
    the top-level shell. The default is, of course, false. If you don't ask
    for input events, you won't get 'em!
