| These are a good guide but are not guaranteed to work. The file is read by the
server. If the server is not on the same host as the client (especially if the
client and server hosts come from different vendors) the set you can get may be
quite different.

Correct me it I am wrong, but I thought you can only use named color that the
server knows about. Any similar files on the client side does not come into
picture at all.

2044.5 | Not totally useless | CLTVAX::dick | Dick Schoeller - Failed Xperiment | Thu Jan 18 1990 10:34 | 8 |
| Jatin,
That's right. However, most of the servers have approximately the same list
which came from the X11 tape (which came from the VT241 definitions, I think).
Therefore, you can use the client side info. (if it exists) to guess at what
might be available on your server.

2044.6 | XListNamedColors()?? | IOUONE::BRYSON | | Tue Jan 23 1990 15:58 | 7 |

I have often wondered why there is not an X request to list the named colors known
to a server. We have XListFonts, XListExtensions, XListHosts, ... but no listing
of the named colors know by a server. I ran into this problem with v1.0 between
ULTRIX and VMS because the color databases differed. Maybe one day...
