2005.0. "VList widget Version X2.0 is now available" by DECWIN::KLEIN () Fri Jan 05 1990 17:18
[cross-posted in DW_EXAMPLES and WIDGET_DIRECTORY]
Announcing...
Version X2.0 of the VList widget is now available!
Looking for a flexible, high-performance, customizable list box widget?
This multi-color, multi-font, multi-column, portable widget may be just
what you need.
The VList widget has been substantially enhanced and now includes
the functionality of VList V1 as well as the features of the VText
and Plist widgets. (If you are already using the VList, VText or
PList widgets, you may consider migrating to VList X2.0. But beware,
the programming interface changed considerably to allow for new
functionality and planned future enhancements.)
The VList widget now fully conforms to the DECwindows Style Guide, is
available in source form, and may be freely used and distributed within
DIGITAL. (Before distributing this widget outside of DIGITAL, please be
sure to contact me to discuss our legal obligations.) And it is even
fully documented!!
Rather than posting the widget directly in the DW_EXAMPLES notes file as I
did for the first version, I am going to try distributing VList X2.0 kits
by E-MAIL. (Unfortunately, I do not have access to a public directory
where I can post the files.) This will also guarantee that you get
the latest and greatest baselevel with all known bugfixes.
To get your own copy of the VList widget, send mail to DECWIN::KLEIN.
If I can send mail back, I will send you the widget. The sources,
documentation and test program amount to about 6000 lines (450 blocks)
in 18 files.
Still on the wish-list for the VList widget are the following ideas:
(*) Vertical and horizontal separators
(*) Icons
(*) Dynamic histogram bars
(*) Right-to-left logic for right-to-left languages
(*) Compound string support
(*) Word wrapping
(*) Multi-line selectable entries
(*) Grayed-out text
(*) Jump scrolling (rather than smooth scrolling)
(*) Resources to be specified in font units rather than pixels
(*) Initial window sizing based on desired number of visible rows
(*) Column header labels sensitive to mouse button clicks
Feedback and additional wish-list contributions will be gratefully received.
