1965.0. "Problem with Bookreader version" by MACRO::KURATA () Fri Dec 22 1989 12:28

hi,

I am having a problem reading the V5.3 documentation in
BULOVA::DOCD$:[53_REVIEW.ONLINE]. I pulled down some of the manuals and
added them to my library. Some work fine, but the majority generate a
"Invalid book version:" message when trying to open the file. Does anyone know
why I am getting this error ?

				Thanks,

We're seeing this same problem with a few books on the newest, January,
1990 on-line documentation library CD. The problem occurs with these
    books:

    USING THE BOOKREADER
    DEC PHIGS FOR VMS
    VAX DECISION EXPERT
    VMS OPERATING SYSTEMS

These books can be accessed locally on our cluster, but we are getting
the "INVALID BOOK VERSION:" message from the system where they are
    DFS-served to.

Locally, we're running VMS T5.3-1. Remotely, where it's failing, we're
    running VMS V5.2.

    Any suggestions?
    Nancy

    Re: .2

Upgrade the remote system to VMS V5.3 - this will give you DECwindows V2
    (and hence the V2 bookreader)

1965.4a bit of explanationVIA::EPPESI'm not making this up, you knowWed Jan 17 1990 11:017
The reason for the "invalid book version" message is that the book was
built for the V2 Bookreader. Books that were built for the V2 Bookreader
cannot be read by the V1 Bookreader. However, books that were built for
the V1 Bookreader *can* be read by the V2 Bookreader, although they won't
look as nice as books that were built for the V2 Bookreader.
