I've got a GPX running generic decwindows on VMS v5.3. I noticed on some occasions that I'll enter my password on the pause screen, gain access to the workstation and the popup "incorrect password, acknologe" appears. My concern should be obvious, how can I give it the wrong password (by mistyping or whatever) and still get in? dave

1964.1 | CR is considered and incorrect password | STAR::BROUILLETTE | Fri Dec 22 1989 11:21 | 10
There is a timing problem in the session manager with the error box. First, you have to understand that hitting a CR will pop up the incorrect password error box. This is because NULL passwords can be valid passwords for accounts on VMS. You are probably hitting an extra CR, or hitting a CR before you type in the password. Either of these scenerios will pop up the error box, since the CR will be flagged as an incorrect password. So, the correct typing of the password is what removes the pause screen. The CR is what signals the error.
