1947.0. "Resize bug with Xlib V2?" by MDA::WEBB (Tom Webb 226-6326) Tue Dec 19 1989 15:23

DECwindows V2 hangs when running certain applications. The problem occurs
when you re-size the window. After that the window manager is dead.

For example, if you run DECW$EXAMPLES:BITMAP (with the right parameter,
of course) using DECW V1, everything works just fine. You can re-size the
window, and the application repaints the contents, as it should.

Using V2, everything hangs. Need to kill the session manager, or sometimes
reboot to recover. Is this a known bug, or am I doing something wrong?

QAR'D 3788. I'm glad someone else found it cause it is kind of nasty.

    Did either of you folks install XDPS (Display PostScript)? If so, that
    is a known problem in BL4 which is being worked on as we speak.

No.  Did not install XDPS.

Is there any known work-around for this?
Should I tell users "don't ever resize window!" ?
Or go back to DECW V2?

1947.4no xdps here, eitherTOOLEY::B_WACKERThu Dec 21 1989 17:287
No XDPS for me, either.

I think the workaround is to give the NxY parameter since resizing
doesn't change the size of the grid, anyway (in the old version that
worked). Also broken on V2 (vanilla 5.3).

    I was able to reproduce this using bitmap on a vanilla VMS V5.3
    system, but it appears to have been fixed by the new server in
    VMS V5.3-1.
