Did any one play with any decw$*.dat files in DECW$SYSTEM_DEFAULTS: ?
1937.2Do what Jeff says...if not that, here is a long shot...DECWIN::FISHERBurns Fisher 381-1466, ZKO3-4/W23Mon Dec 18 1989 12:2411
Does it make any difference whether it is the first time the loginout box appears
after booting and/or doing @SYS$MANAGER:DECW$STARTUP RESTART? The reason I
ask is that if it works fine the first time, but has troubles subsequent times,
you can also look into the DECW$XDEFAULTS.DAT file on the SYS$LOGIN of the
person who logged in. (In V1 of DECwindows, which you are using, the server
is not FORCED to reset when you lot out. This means that if some application
kept running after the user logged out, the server would not reset, and the
user's resources from DECW$XDEFAULTS.DAT would still be in effect for the login
box.

     WELL I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT BUT HIS SYSTEM IS THE ONLY ONE THAT
    THIS HAPPENS IN THE LAVC TO AND ALSO SOMETIMES IT TAKES A FEW DAYS
    BEFORE THE STRANGE THINGS START TO HAPPEN AND ONE OTHER THING IS WHEN
    YOU PAUSE YOUR SESSION ALL THE TEXT AND LINES AND OK,CLEAR BOX GO TO
    THE TOP LEFT PART OF THE SCREEN ALL OVERLAPPING EACH OTHER

All those symptoms really point to having the mumble.dat files messed up.
It could be that there is one in the user's SYS$SPECIFIC directory.

Also, just to eliminate on source of uncertainty that everyone will pick on,
you should probably autogen. It's a good idea anyway.
