The customer I work with had the desire to write his application so that no code was resident on the workstation and had one of our residents write the application for him. The objective was to be able to have the application run only on the 6000 class machine and display on either workstations or terminals. There was a requirement for the server machines to blink. Apparently there is no way for a DECwindows client application to get the server systems to blink and our objective to not have any code resident on the workstation was not able to be met. Can someone verify that a DECwindows client application cannot make the server systems blink? Or, is there a way to make this happen that was maybe not explored? Regards, Maureen

Have you tried erasing and redrawing? Unfortunately, that is the only way to make things blink (that I know of). It does work from the client end (as you required) but it is a little gross. That is how the text widgets blink their cursors. Dick |
