1910.0. "How do I get a full console (OPA0/CSA0) screen?" by PITMAN::GARROD () Thu Dec 14 1989 00:17

I've looked for a note on this topic but can't find one, so sorry if
    this is a repeat.

Once DECwindows is started is there any way to use the whole screen
as the console terminal CSA0 (OPA0)? Ie say I'd like to do a
spot of XDELTAing I hit the HALT button and I get this pretty useless
6 line window. I'd like to have the whole screen. When I continue again
I'd be perfectly happy to have to go clicking to get DECwindows
to properly restore my windows that the console XDELTA will have
    written all over.

I know that I could probably hang a VT220 off the printer port and
somehow turn that into the console but barring that is there anyway
to use the full height of the TV screen for a console?

Sorry. The GPX has limitations. In future graphics subsystems, we are looking
for a larger OPA0 window, but for now, what you see is what you get.

re: -2

I hook up a VT220 and use that when I run XDELTA. It is much easier.

What's the command(s) to make the VTxxx the console for XDELTA?

You need a BCC08 cable. Plug the 9 pin DSUB into the printer port and the
25 pin dsub in the VT220, power up the VS2000, and the console will be
on the VT220.

RE: .-?...

Before I set window_system I get a full screen console. What is the
true limitation that prevents this from happening when window_system=1?

P.S., VS2000...

When the DECwindows system comes up (the server) there is very little
off-screen memory to provide an operators console.
1910.9Does this mean i can use VCSYUPPY::CONNOLLYThu Jan 04 1990 11:276
Does this dodge with the VS2000 mean i could plug a VCS system into
this type of VAXstation and are there similar dodges for the other
    VAXstations????

    Re: .9

There is some way to connect a console terminal to all of the
VAXstations and microVAXs that I know of. On the VAXstations you may
have to type a few <BREAK> characters at the >>> prompt to get the
console to switch to the terminal. The VS3100's have a dip switch
    to switch the console over.

Once you have an RS232 console port working there is no reason that
you can't connect VCS to it. VCS can handle anything that is:

    1. RS232
    2. Supports XON/XOFF for flow control.
    3. Uses I/O buffering on the controlled line.

We have a few customers that use VCS to control the console lines
    of a herd of VAXstations.
