1808.0. "Display Postscript on screen" by KISMIF::PESENTI (JP) Wed Nov 29 1989 08:10

Is there any way (VMS V5.3) to display a postscript file on my workstation
screen? I'm looking for a utility like VWS's RENDER.

I'm trying to produce some documentation (Using DOCUMENT), and would rather
not have to produce hard copy each time I want to check the format.

If you're an internal user, have you tried the postscript previewer
(from the default Fileview applications menu, or by running
    SYS$SYSTEM:DECW$PSVIEWER)?

Have we sorted out the licence issues on this yet?
1808.2Ultrix has itJAMMER::JACKMarty JackWed Nov 29 1989 10:194
If you're an internal or external Ultrix user, you have dxpsview already.

A future release of the CDA Viewer is expected to have support for viewing
PostScript documents.

Even better install XDPS ( X Display PostScript extension ) on your
machine.

There's a note conference called XDPS but I don't know the node.

PSPRINT (See HANNAH::PSPRINT conerence) can do it using DECTERM if you
do a SET TERM/PRINTER first.

1808.5Display Post Script for VMS available for internal testingSTAR::VATNEPeter Vatne, VMS DevelopmentWed Nov 29 1989 13:385
The Display Post Script extension for the VMS server is available for
internal testing. See the BULOVA::XDPS conference for more information
(hit KP7 to add this conference to your notebook). The Display Post
Script extension will enable Digital to write Post Script previewers
that satisfy Adobe's licensing requirements.

Just to combine some of the previous replies, the current internal XDPS
kit contains XDPS$PSVIEWER, a replacement for the old DECW$PSVIEWER which
uses Display PostScript and which, as Peter says, has had its licensing
    issues sorted out.

This exact application will not ship on VMS. Its functionality will
be subsumed by the CDA viewer, available on both VMS and Ultrix. The update
d viewer should show up soon in a store near you.
