1805.1 | Transport I/F documentation please | SPYDER::BULLARD | Seize the day !! | Wed Nov 29 1989 03:50 | 7 |
| I am also interested in Decwindows version 2 documentation locations.
I would like to know in which manual documents the programming
interface between the Decwindows common transport module and the
transport specific module.
regards mark

1805.3 | The documentation situation is strange | SDSVAX::SWEENEY | The Finite Voyage | Mon Dec 04 1989 18:22 | 13 |
| The situation with respect to the programmers' technical documentation
for the updated components of VMS 5.3 (w/ DECwindows V2) is strange.
I am one of those local distribution sites, and I get little messages when
the stuff is ready.
NEW_FEATURES, RELEASE_NOTES, and UPGRADE_INSTALL are the files that the
distribution sites have... And they say that VMS 5.3 has gone to SSB
already.
I'm guessing a bit here, but I think the Xlib, XUI toolkit, and UIL
has changed to the extent they need whole new manuals. Likewise, I
think the Transport manual is going to ship with VMS 5.3

1805.5 | Location of DECwindows V2 Documentation | STAR::WURM | | Thu Dec 14 1989 10:26 | 57 |
|
VMS V5.3 documentation (including DECwindows documentation)
is now available on BULOVA::SYS$KITS:[VMS053] and should be
available on the distribution sites listed in Note 1639. Please use
the distribution site nearest to you. If the documents are not
yet available on your local site, ask the contact person to copy
them
The hardcopy documents are new or revised for V2 of DECwindows.
With the exception of the CDA Manual, the programming books
were not reprinted for V2 of DECwindows. The Programming
Supplement describes all V2 functionality for the
Toolkit Routines, UIL, Guide to Application Programming,
Xlib Ref, Xlib Programming Guides, and Device Driver manuals.
The programming books have been revised for online. Thus,
to learn about new V2 functionality, you can use either the
online books or the hardcopy Programming Supplement.

1805.6 | Can't read DECwindows Users Guide | ELUDE::GREMBOWICZ | | Wed Jan 03 1990 14:42 | 14 |
|
We installed VMS 5.3 and DECwindows V2 and copied the savesets and
documentation from the directory on the node SQM. However, we can't
read the BOOKREADER version of the DECwindows Users Guide. When
we click on it, we get "End of file detected". The file is only
64 blocks.
I copied the book from the node ATSE, and that file is also only
64 blocks.
Is this book available on any node?

Copy the file from:

It't size: 2885 blocks.
The file will automatically be deleted in five days or so ...

1805.9 | The file *IS* there, and *IS* protected correctly | SQLRUS::COFFLER | Have you hugged your dog today? | Tue Jan 09 1990 19:01 | 14 |
| No, Helen, the problem must be on your end. The directory is protected
but the file is not. Copy the file without any wildcards, and you WILL
get it.
I have reset the date so that the file will be deleted five days from
today. After that, the file is gone, and you'll have to get it from
other channels (I have other work to do and thus can't serve as a
distribution point for files that can be received from the SSB).
Personally, I don't even understand why people want this particular
file. Why not order a CD with *ALL* DECwindows Doc, *ALL* VMS Doc, and
a healthy number of layered product docs? It's very inexpensive, is
updated frequently, and is extremely easy. Even the CD readers are
cheap ...

These directories seem to be protected now. Is there any place
to get a copy for VMS 5.3 any more?

| It is simplier to get it over the net if possible. Not to mention
faster.
