1792.0. "How to move DECW$CLOCK panes?" by HYDRA::COAR (What I do is secret.) Mon Nov 27 1989 12:59

I took a look, but didn't see anything here relating to this, so here goes..

I just upgraded to VMS V5.3, DW V2.0, and now I see that the clock has been
rearranged. Now the analogue presentation is in the leftmost pane, rather than
the upper right. To put it cordially, I don't like it that way; amon other
things, the analogue display is now in a long, skinny rectangle rather than the
approximate square, and thereby much smaller.

So.. How can I define which display appears where in the clock window? I want
to have all three presentations (analogue, digital, and date).

1792.1STAR::MFOLEYHey kid, you're with usMon Nov 27 1989 15:369

	There's already a note on this somewhere.. DIR/TITLE=CLOCK should
	get it..

	I think the bottom line is to grab the old DECW$CLOCK image but I
	could be wrong..

1792.2I've looked at the /TITLE=CLOCK notes, no joy thereHYDRA::COARWhat I do is secret.Mon Nov 27 1989 17:270

    This is just a suggestion: resizing the clock window changes the size
    of the various pieces (or at least it did in V5.1).
1792.4Not quite what I want, alasHYDRA::COARWhat I do is secret.Tue Nov 28 1989 13:165
It still does, but the problem is that resizing the window so the analogue
clock is the correct size consumes a major amount of screen real estate, and
puts the text panes in the neighbourhood of 72pt.

1792.5Run the V1 executable. CIM::KAIRYSMichael KairysTue Nov 28 1989 13:5245
    I also discoered that I disliked the V2 clock face arrangement, and
    posted a note asking whether I could have the old arrangement back
    without actually running the old executable. Exerpts from those notes
    are included below.

    Since I never received any indication to the contrary, I assume the
    answer is, if you liked the old arrangement, you'd better have saved
    the old .EXE file...

    Note that you need the corresponding DECW$CLOCK.DAT file from
    SYS$LIBRARY.

Note 1469.0                     DECW 5.3 grumbles                      6 replies

    Having just installed VMS T5.3, and hence DECW V2, I have two grumbles
    (aka nits, I guess):

			[ . . . ]

    - The new Clock has its face rearranged, and, personally, not to my
      liking. I used to run it with with analog and date only, and if I do
      that now I have to make the whole thing much bigger just to get the
      analog face to be readable. I worked around this by copying over
      decw$clock.exe from a 5.2 system, which refused to run until I had
      taken a copy of decw$clock.dat from decw$system_defaults: and put it
      in sys$library:.

    Let me rephrase my comments as questions, in the hope of eliciting some
    response:

			[ . . . ]

    2. Is there any way under DECW V2 to have the V1 Clock face
    arrangement, besides preserving and running the V1 clock executable?

1792.6VIA::FINNEGANAll of the best intentions are less than one good act.Wed Dec 27 1989 10:2711
Correct, the new arrangement was to make way for internationalization. I needed
a single place to put the date string so it could come out in the correct order
for a given locale. I18N did not make the V2.0 release but is in Hickory.

There was no way for me to get the date format for XNLS and may it look right
for all locales in the V1.0 format.

I considered having an option to switch formats but I did not have time to
implement it. I will add it to the V3.0 wish list.
