When at home I can use a VT220 and modem to connect to work. If I make this connection FIRST and THEN plug the modem into the standard serial port of a 3100 workstation I can $set host/dte TTXX: and work the modem through a DECTerm window...fine I thought. But when I try to set host/dte to INITIATE the modem session on TTXX: I get all sorts of problems (I can talk to the modem and make it dial but then...nothing). Maybe its the setup on TTXX:, I've tryed all sorts of $set term /etc. Maybe its the customization of the DECTerm window. Any thoughts would be appreciated. -dave (novice modem user)

This problem should really be directed to a VMS conference - but here goes... A lot of hayes compatable modems (at least in Australia), will talk to you at practically any speed - If you have the terminal port set to 9600 and issue an ATD1823912 it will appear to work but will not dial . So firstly I would suggest doing a $SET TERM/PERM/SPEED=2400 on the terminal port. Secondly I would check the modem setup - is it ignoring modem control correctly cause on TTA2 you have very little in the way of modem control - only XON/XOFF. Try this, and if all else fails have a look in the VMS conference Stan. | |||||

Look in the microVAX conference on TURRIS:: It has a full description on why modems will not work on the VS3100. The VS3100 has no modem control signals to TTA2. Search in that conference, there is a big discussion on it, and discussing it here would just replicate the rat hole. Jeff |
