1747.0. "Problem with remote applications" by KISMIF::PESENTI (JP) Wed Nov 15 1989 17:05

    I have a bit of a problem. In the past, I was running VMS V5.2 on my
    VS2000 and VMS V5.1 on our cluster. The the cluster got "violated".

    Now we have VMS V5.3 everywhere. Also INSPECT (no comments, please).

    I am having a problem with the remote applications I used to run.

    Both nodes know each other. Both have proxy set, so DIR HOONOO:: from
    KISMIF works and so does DIR KISMIF:: from HOONOO. If I set host to
    KISMIF from HOONOO, here is what happens

    $ set disp/crea/node=hoonoo
    $ mc decw$mail
    Xlib: connection to "HOONOO::0.0" refused by server
    Xlib: Client is not authorized to access server
    X Toolkit Error: Can't Open display
    %DWT-F-DWTABORT, xtoolkit fatal error
    $ set disp/del
    $

    I have an entry for "DECNET KISMIF:: PESENTI" in my session security
    control.

    I believe there is some object that has been disabled or protected
    perhaps that is preventing the access.

    Any Ideas?

1747.1The node name shouldn't contain colonsSTAR::VATNEPeter Vatne, VMS DevelopmentWed Nov 15 1989 18:224

Do you really have two colons after the node name? If so, I think this
is the problem. Remove the colons and try again.
1747.2Keep 'em comingKISMIF::PESENTIJPWed Nov 15 1989 19:584
    I didn't originally, but I thought that might be the problem, so I
    added them. I will try again, though.

If the KISMIF is a cluster make sure that all node address on that cluster are
defines in your data base

Also if all else fails try to reboot decwindows
		@sys$manager:decw$startup restart

1747.4Thanks.KISMIF::PESENTIJPMon Nov 20 1989 10:367
I eliminated the "::" from the Security Customization, and now things work ok.
Also lots of things changed on the cluster. The cluster changes probably
eliminated the original problems that prevented things from working before I
added the "::".

					Thanks
