1721.0. "process slots stay open after stop task" by LEMAN::MEISTER () Fri Nov 10 1989 11:21
hello
there is a problem under decwindows, that maybe even isn't one...
Listen: My customer tells me that when he opens several processes from fileview
and closes them from fileview, the process slots stay open (VUE$username_n
still present in his system...
I (a frequent note reader) told him, what I found in note 649.2.
He told me, that in the moment when he starts one more application, he has
process slots which are idle, I mean which don't consume any CPU cycles, but
that there is a new process slot created anyway. In his case, the system will
get filled up and soon unusable...
I know, there is a behavior of DECwindows that consists in not releasing
memory occupied by fonts from deleted DECterms. But in my customers case this is
not the case, because apparently, he can reconstruct the problem by simply
starting and stopping tasks like the clock etc.
So, if please anybody could tell me, if this behavior is normal, invented or
anything else? (...because I didn't see it with my own eyes, as a poor
telephone support guy)
thanks in advance, regards and any other thing you would like to hear,
andreas, SSG lausanne, Switzerland
