1710.0. "Startup problems w/ DW v2.0" by SULTRY::DALTON () Thu Nov 09 1989 14:32
I have just installed VMS 5.3 w/ DECW 2.0 on an 8MB VS3100. Everything
went just fine until I installed DECwrite 1.0. Upon rebooting the system
after install DECwrite, it had been rebooted several times before, I am no
longer able to get either a DECterm or FileVeiw window to open. The
session manager window indicates that the processes are starting, but
nothing happens...not even any error messages. I can login from another
system, set the display and create/term=decterm/detach and the DECterm
window opens as it should on the VS3100.
We have checked the logs and find no clues. Sysgen parameters look okay as
do the account quotas. We have had the same problem with two different
workstations.
I have posted a similar note in the DECwrite conference, and they indicate
that they haven't seen the problem with similar configurations.
Any suggestions will be very much appreciated.

1710.1 | Found the problem...Secpack_check_priv
| SULTRY::DALTON | | Fri Nov 10 1989 09:05 | 8 |
| We found the problem. We had installed and started up Secpack. When the
the DECterm or FileView processes tried to start up they would run into the
@secpack_files:secpack_check_priv command in sylogin and stop, I guess waiting
for a response. This wasn't a proble with DW v1.0. When we eliminated this
from sylogin everything works great.
