I have a question concerning the Applications menu now available in the Session Manager in DECwindows V2. Is there any way that I could have a verb automatically added to the Session Manager "Applications" menu upon installation of a product? Is it similar to adding a button to FileView? An answer to this question and/or a pointer to the proper documentation (and its location) would be much appreciated. Thanks, Roland

You could do it by adding stuff to the sm app-defaults file. The apps and menu are defined with resources: sm.Mail.command: dxmail sm.applications: Calculator,Calendar,Cardfiler,Clock,DECterm,Mail,Notepad ,Paint,Postscript Previewer,Puzzle,User Executive sm.Calculator.command: dxcalc sm.Clock.command: dxclock sm.DECterm.command: dxterm -ls sm.Notepad.command: dxnotepad sm.Paint.command: dxpaint sm.Puzzle.command: dxpuzzle sm.Postscript Previewer.command: dxpsview sm.User Executive.command: dxue Jeff

re.1 A word of caution (if i'm wrong someone quickly correct me). If you modify the sm-app-defaults file while the session manager is running and the interactive user later makes a change - & SAVES it- your changes are lost!! Right? From my observation when a user does a SAVE the session manager takes its "in memory" defaults and creates a new defaults file. steve

re.2 I'm pretty sure you're right - I've observed that the save creates a new defaults file in the user defaults area. I started a new note (1695) to pursue the supported-ness of the suggestion in reply 1. Thank you both, for the suggestion and for the caveat... Roland |
