1668.0. "Limit on Number of processes/windows" by TONY::BOLTON () Fri Nov 03 1989 10:25
I have a 3200, with 24 Mbytes, global pages set high, and all other obvious
parameters set correctly to allow lots of open applications. I run local
VMS DECWindows (not from a server over DECNET), in a cluster.
I cannot open more than 30/31 total processes, 15 interactive.
If I try to open too many, lets say 5, terminal windows, my session manger
window dissapears, nevwr to be seen again. If I try to open more application
they remain in a "pending" state.
I'm running DECWindows rel 1, w/VMS 5.2
We are installing 5.3 and rel 2 this weekend...i'll see if this helps.
I have one note in on this already but didn't mention that i'm running local.
any input would be appreciated

| Check your SYSGEN parameter MAXPROCESSCNT. Also, there is a hard limit of
32 "connections" for DECwindows (do I have that right?)

| Yes. According to the code I am looking at, that is true, Steve. Although,
it should just reject connections beyond that, not kick off old ones.

these are not "connections" to a server...
also various tookit errors occur and the system will hang in the file view
and must be stopped using DCL if you try to open the 33rd process...
