1663.1 | Rename to something.CARD | WHCOX::WHCOX | Bill Cox, Database Systems, CXN1/5, 523-2873 | Sat Nov 04 1989 14:02 | 4 |
| Are you sure that there is something in the old .tmp file. You might
try DUMP/RECORD and verify that there is something in there. If there
is, just rename it to something.CARD and the cardfiler will recognize
it.

| This is not really a bug, it a limitation.
The cardfiler does not have any journelling or recovery support (it is on the
wish list) so you are in trouble when your system crashes.
The .tmp file is used by the cardfiler to keep track of changes to the database
when you add or modify cards but it does not have enough information in it to
recreate the database on a crash.
You may be able to edit the file and paste the strings into a cardfiler but it
would be a purely manual operation.
I save whenever I make changes in case my system crashes, not a prefect solution
but...
Sorry for the inconvience,
Neal

1663.3 | cardfiler bug? | TALLIS::MCAFEE | Steve McAfee | Thu Jan 11 1990 11:27 | 13 |
| Something really wierd happened to me in the card filer today.
I have a phonebook setup I've been using for 3 or 4 months with
no problems. Today, I went in there to get a number and somehow
two or three cards were propagated to all the others. Of the
50-60 cards listed there are only about 3 or 4 DIFFERENT
cards. For example, fifteen or so now have the card for boston
university. Anyone have a suggestion as to what happened???
It looks like I last wrote out address.card on dec 28, but I
don't remember if I've used it since then. I restarted the cardfiler
and got the same results...

| That sounds like a bug. What version of everything are you running?
If you are running VMS 5.1 or 5.2 I think I know what the bug is.

| I'm now running VMS 5.3 and DECW V2, but I've had the cardfile around
since I was running VMS 5.2 and DECW V1 I think. Some of the cards
were still correct, so it very well may have been munged since before
I upgraded.
I re-entered everything and haven't had a problem since. I am going
to keep a backup from now on though just in case...

| Ok,
If you want to QAR it and give access to one of the corrupt databases then I
will look into it.

| It doesn't bother me that much, but if you want me to QAR it, I still
have a bad file and it is very small. Just a bunch of phone numbers...
Which QAR database do I use for cardfiler? DECWINDOWS-IFT?

1663.8 | Cardfiler Wishlist | DECWET::SHUSTER | Give me cowboy lips | Mon Mar 19 1990 14:34 | 12 |
| I was wondering if there are any planned enhancements to Cardfiler.
Specifically, it would be nice to have the ability to:
o Delete or Modify the occurence of a certain string throughout a
specified stack of cards.
o Pull in an ascii file, in addition to image files.
I couldn't find a Cardfiler notesfile, so maybe this can be the start
of a wishlist.

| The best way to make requests for new cardfiler functionality is to QAR them
as suggestions.
It is hard to keep up with all of the notesfiles.
Currently no big new features are planned due to work for Motif, XNLS and
Memex.
