1662.0. "printscreen problems on LA75 print queue" by LEVERS::JLUNT () Thu Nov 02 1989 16:47

I am running VMS 5.3 with version 2 DECwindows on VAXSTATION 2000
attached to a LA75 printer. The LA75 is set up as a terminal queue.
The problem occurs using printscreen: print a portion of the screen
In any given login period if I do a printscreen: print portion of
the screen more than once DECwindows creates a tmp file and never
prints the file. Below is a typical scenario:

    I. login

    II. run whatever applications

III. Decide to print a portion of the screen to the LA75- no problem

IV. Decide to print a portion of the screen on the LA75 a second
time- I get no printout, I get a file called DECW$PRINTSCREEN.TMP0

    V. I try again to print out a portion of the screen on the LA75-
I get no printout, I get a file called:

    	DECW$PRINTSCREEN.TMPECW$PRINTSCREEN;1

VI. So, I try a third time to print out a portion of the screen
to the LA75 and get the file:

    	DECW$PRINTSCREEN.TMPECW$PRINTSCREEN;2

(no that's not a typo, there really is a file created called that!)

I am wondering why the output is getting logged to this temp file
and not queued to the printer. I can print other things on the
printer, so that isn't the problem. Has anyone else had this problem,
or does anyone know if it is a problem with DECwindows in general
or my print queue setup in particular?

    Thank you

    Julie Ann

This may be of no help at all, but you might want to try something like
what is suggested in note 1800.6. Of course, I realize that you may
already have this or a better solution. But, this is what I wound up
    doing.

1662.2Mine doesn't print at all...CSC32::J_MACGOWNPS-HW>BOOT/R5:10 Colorado_springsSat Apr 07 1990 12:3917
II have some what of the same problem on my Vaxstation 2000 with a La75
printer. I'm also running Vms 5.3. When I select print screen, then select the
stuff to print. I creates a file called DECW$PRINTSCREEN.TMP. But it never puts
it into the print queue. I had created a command procedure to put the file into
the print que and it prints fine. The one thing I noticed is a friend of mine
has a Vaxstation 3100 and when he does a print screen, it prompts him for the
queue to print to. Mine never asks me that. Do I have something set up wrong or
is this a problem with VAxstation 2000's????

Thanks,

Johnny Mac

P.S.

My friend is running the same version of vms and I have my print settings set
up the same a him.

Copy your friend's DECW$SM_GENERAL.DAT file, re-login, and try it again.

This isn't all the resources, but it will provide some insight to how
print-screen is done.
