**** NOTE: Network kits are FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY!!!! *****
The final V5.3 kit is available at all VMS distribution sites. This kit will
upgrade on any V5.* (FT or SSB version) and will install from standalone
backup. The current documentation will be in the same directory as the kit.
To report problems with the software use the V5 database on TRIFID to submit
QARs for all released versions of VMS. All discussion of the V5.3 kit should
take place in the VAXWRK::VMSNOTES conference.
Note that the distribution site is now BULOVA::SYS$KITS:[VMS053] instead of
the node VMSKIT. VMSKIT has been merged into a cluster for greater
availability. The files in the distribution kit directory are:

1639.1 | Don't try to copy from BULOVA | HWSSS0::SZETO | Simon Szeto @HGO, Hongkong | Tue Oct 31 1989 19:24 | 6 |
| NOTE: Do NOT try to copy the kit from BULOVA:: -- only the kit
distribution sites can do that. Find a distribution site near you from
the list in the second part of the memo and copy the kit from there.

painfull enough!!

1639.4 | can't install DECwindows | TENNIS::KAM | Kam Worksystems 508 493 4972 (DTN 223) MLO1-2/C30 | Mon Nov 20 1989 16:16 | 10 |
| I copied all these kits to a TK52 and attempted to install it on a FF.
It was taking so long to install that I decided to install VMS053 and
then install DECW053 later. I copied DECW053.* to a local directory
and attempted to use VMSINSTAL. I keep getting the error
%VMSINSTAL-E-NOPRODS, None of the specified products were found. Is
there a kit that can be installed or do I have to start over and
answer YES to DECwindows ?
thanks

You need to use DECW$TAILOR to add DECwindows later.

1639.7 | Upgrade from DTVMS V1.0? | SUOSW4::GEISELHART | | Mon Jan 29 1990 04:36 | 3 |

on VMS V5.1-B), which it refused. What can I do?

1639.9 | quest for reliable kit directory | MRSVAX::MISKINIS | | Fri Mar 30 1990 11:45 | 17 |
| Hello,
I've been poking around now for about 2 hours in both the
DECWINDOWS and DECWINDOWS_DOCUMENTATION conferences. I'm tyring
to find the ONLINE POSTSCIPT format DECWINDOWS-5.3 DOCUMENTATION.
I'm in area 7 (MR01), but the "designated kit" area has only
one file (READ_ME_FIRST.TXT), and its protected... BULOVA:: seems
to have SOME of them...
Is there a reliable directory on the network that has ALL the
postscipt format DW documentation files?
Many, Many Thanks in advance,
_John_

1639.10 | Get them from the SSB | CVG::PETTENGILL | mulp | Fri Mar 30 1990 15:01 | 10 |
| Order the books from the SSB (SDC) if you want hard copy.
Get and RRD40 and get on the automatic distribution for the Online Documentation
CDROM.
It hardly makes sense to print the books locally unless the books are simply
not available any other way which is the case with field test documentation.
Not all of the documentation was redone for V5.3, so not all of the manuals
were available then, and today, it doesn't make sense to keep them online
since they are available thru much better channels.
