1636.0. "DECwindows V2.0 and VTX bug?" by SPAM1::TOMLINSON (The Geek Speaks) Fri Oct 27 1989 18:07

Hi,

We've just installed DECwindows V2.0 (FT) on VMS V5.2-1 and are running
VTX V3.1 mostly on VS3200s. People on our cluster are running into two
problems. The previous DECwindows version was fine.

I've scanned both the VTX_BUGS and the DECwindows notes files and haven't come
across a similar reference, so I am cross posting this.

Has anyone else run into the following? Any suggestions?

Problem 1: From a DECwindows terminal window some users can't get a VTX menu
screen or any other screen unless they pull down the "COMMANDS" menu and
click on "RESET TERMINAL". This allows for display of one page. When
another selection is made, it is necessary to reset the terminal to see
    the next page.

By setting TERM/NOREGIS/NOSIXEL you can get around this; however,
problems 2 and 3 show up.

Problem 2: At the bottom of a VTX page is an area for double height
messages from VTX. Since installing DECwindows 2.0 a menu page
shows only "Ch" of the word "Choice:" in double height, while the
actual user's menu selection is regular height with no spaces in
between it and the 'Ch'. Setting the terminal to NOREGIS/NOSIXEL
    has no effect.

Problem 3: Other double height messages and cursor position are also
messed up. It doesn't matter if it's a display or form page.

    E.g., "Press HELP[cursor] ptions." -- looks like
an overlay of Press Help for more options message (?).

"No next [cursor] ld." -- looks like No Next Field
message gets overlaid. When you press another key, the "ld." remains.

Thanks for any help/suggestions,

Kristine

RE: .0 DECterm problems with VTX displays

There was at least one problem in FT1 with double height characters
in DECterm. It was fixed in the V5.3 SSB kit. See the DECterm
    conference at HANNAH::DECW$DISK:[PUBLIC]DECTERM for details.

I QARed some of the VTX problems under FT1. They were fixed in FT2.
