SUBJECT: Availability of OSF Motif for Digital platforms

We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the first
base level of Digital's implementation of OSF Motif for VAX/VMS,
     VAX/ULTRIX, and MIPS/ULTRIX.

This UNSUPPORTED release can be used solely by Digital employees.
This is OSF proprietary software and strict controls are in place
to track its distribution. A plan is in effect for customer and
ISV accessibility to the kit. If you feel a customer or ISV must
have access to the kit, contact either Shirley Schneider
     (CLT::SSCHNEIDER) or John Hurd (CLT::HURD).

For those who require a supported version, one will be available in
Q3 FY90 as a separately orderable product. Eventually, this will,
of course, be integrated with the base platforms to serve as
     Digital's strategic toolkit.

Although this kit contains many fixes from the original OSF Motif
V1.0 release, it probably still contains bugs. Kit users are
encouraged to enter comments and discussions on the kit in the
notes conference SUBWAY::MOTIF. The development team will monitor
this conference, however there are no commitments regarding timely
replies. No QAR database will be used for the notification of
     bugs.

The kit contains the following components:

o toolkit object library and associated include files containing
         all OSF Motif widgets

o toolkit object library containing all DEC-specific widgets
(help widget only in this release)

o toolkit resource manager object library

      o Intrinsics object library

                                                                  Page 2

      o UIL compiler

      o window manager

o early versions of XUI to Motif porting tools

o installation instructions including a "roadmap" of the
         generated environment

      o release notes

The kit DOES NOT include the following components currently in XUI:

      o color mixing widget

      o compound string text widget

      o language binding files

      o VMS bindings

      o sharable images

o high level widget creation routines, although these will be
converted to calls to the low level routines by the porting
         tools

To receive access to this kit, send mail to SICVAX::MOTIF and
Shirley Schneider (CLT::SSCHNEIDER). Due to licence issues, we
must keep careful track of everyone who installs this toolkit on
their system. Therefore, the following information must be
     included in this mail message:

      o User name

      o Badge number

      o Cost Center

o Cost Center Manager name and email node

      o CPU serial number

The documentation is available in CLT::DECW_LIBRARY:[MOTIF.V1].
This includes an updated porting guide.

I don't suppose you can tell me when/where/if bookreader versions
of the documentation will be available?

No, unfortunately, I couldn't. The development team has neither the time nor
the expertise to convert the documents to bookreader format. If someone out
there would like to volunteer, however, be our guest...

Most likely the .ps files came from roff sources through psroff.
