1597.0. "XUI on a Cray?" by CUJO::GEORGE () Wed Oct 18 1989 17:47

(posted in DECWindows, X, and Motif)

A collaborator and potential customer is doing Digital a big favor by
porting XUI to a Cray under UniCOS. This will allow us to show some
interactive applications developed on DEC workstations running on the Cray.

HOwever, he is having major problems and is asking us for help. He
previously did an installation of XUI on a Sun with just a few minor
problems. His note descibing his problem with Cray is below.

Is this a system V vs. BSD problem or a Cray specific problem? Have people
installing XUI on other SYS V boxes had similar problems? Most
importantly, does anyone have a less painful solution?

Also, should we expect to have the same problem on a Motif installation?
Has anyone installed Motif on a Cray?

Thanks in advance,

Ray George

George: The main problems that I have had trying to port XUI to UNICOS
5.1 have to do with the header files in /usr/include and /usr/include/sys .
Specifically file.h, types.h and fd.h . I am slowly slogging through
the make in lib/dwt . What I am doing is breaking on every couple of
c-routines and then trying to go through and reorganize the #includes for
the header files. I am running into a lot of repeat definitions of
various structures and typedefs which stops the UNICOS cpp dead. It would
appear that SUN-OS desn't care about some of the niceties that UNICOS does
because I can't see much difference in the way either operating system goes
through the make. One specific question I do have is who sets the SYS_V
environment variable ? There are a lot of #ifndef on that variable that
are passing because it isn't set and I don't know if it should be or not???
UNICOS is SYS_V isn't it?? ---dan
