1595.0. "What changed with DECW V2 FT2 vs DECW V1?" by HPSRAD::KOMAR (Entropy isn't what it used to be) Wed Oct 18 1989 16:25

    	There are a couple of applications that were compiled and linked
    	against DECW V1 but that when they are run under DECW V2 Ft2 don't
    	get (or process) any events (exposure, mouse, etc).

    	I have seen this behavior with GnuEmacs (18.54) and PSW's
    	Mandelbrot package. Re compiling and relinking the Mandelbrot
    	stuff seems to solve the problem (according to that notesfile, I
    	think). Relinking Gnuemacs againg V2/Ft2 didn't help any.

    	I am wondering what changes in DECWindows have been made that
    	might cause applications to ignore events?

    	(I realize that neither of the above mentioned applications are
    	 supported by /integrated with DECWindows; they are just examples)

1595.1I think something "interesting" happened in DECW$XLIBSHRVMSDEV::BALLOUIt's not slow, it's careful!Wed Oct 18 1989 19:3311
Yeah, this sounds *very* familiar. I entered a note some time back about this
in this notes conference, and I also blathered at length in the GNU notes file.
It turns out that GNU Emacs just would not go with the DECW$XLIBSHR shareable
image that identifies itself as "DECW T2.0-IFT2" image, linked "8-AUG-1989
17:48:05.61" However, it works fine with a more recent DECW$XLIBSHR which
identifies itself as "DECWINDOWS V5.3" linked "29-SEP-1989 20:09:19.91"

Fun, fun! :-)
