A major change is coming to all DECwindows application and widget
writers.
That change is OSF Motif. Over the next year, the primary toolkit for
DECwindows will be changing from XUI to one based upon OSF Motif.
This will cause changes in both the programming interface as well as
the look and feel of applications.
To assist developers during the strategic toolkit shift,
representatives from the DECwindows toolkit development team will be
giving a two-hour presentation to be held from 1:00-3:00 on Thursday,
November 2 in the Cauchy conference room (ZKO3-1).
The three major topics to be discussed in this meeting are:
1. User interface differences between XUI and Motif
2. Programming differences
3. Schedule of the Motif port effort
We recommend that each development team responsible for a DECwindows
application send at least one developer to this presentation.

These slides where very timely and informative for .... however ... What plans do we have to disseminate this information to customers and third party application developers who are currently writing DECwindows based widget and applications with XUI ? We realize that customers will need to get the details. Our Motif strategy was program announced last week at DECUS as well as elsewhere. As far as disseminating the actual details which were outlined in the presentation, we are working with the required departments (CSC, Ed. Services, SQM) to make that happen in a timely manner. When customers are able to get access to the kit (target date is 2/90), we should have everything in place. steve | |||||
