1578.0. "Request for Decwindows Class Library Availability" by RICKS::WENNERS () Mon Oct 16 1989 13:54

My questions revolve around a Software Engineering
course I am taking over Network Northeastern.

At Northeastern, they are using a Macintosh environment using
THINKC V4.0. They have a THINK Class Library which provides the
Object Oriented programming (OOP) interface to the MAC window management.

What I am trying to find out if there is a similar environment I can
set up with DECwindows and C++. Is there a class library around which setups
a lot of the window management routines that can modified by the user
with overrides or parameter passing.

Basically, what I am looking for is an object oriented environment
using Decwindows, C++, and VMS. Can you help out on this?

Any help you can provide would be appreciated. I have looked at the
XUI Toolkit which has a lot of window routines but I have not been aable to
find any class libraries that would provide the object oriented interface.

I will be suing this interface to develop a moderate sized program -
about 1000 lines of code.

Thanks in advance,

Tom Wenners

Tom,

I have not seen any mention of an object set which encapsulates the DECwindows
widget set for C++. There was on the usenet a .hxx file to replace xlib.h for
use with C++. There is also Interviews which is an object library (and
programming environment, I think) for C++. The default object set for
Interviews does not have an XUI look and feel but you may be able to sub-class
them to do so. Interviews has been discussed in TURRIS::C_PLUS_PLUS. The
usenet stuff (from comp.sources.x) should be available on DECWRL.
